Picked up trailer, easy tow home!

My buddy Bill rode with me to Elkhart. The trailer tows very nice. On the way back we stopped at Bass Pro Shops outside of Toledo. We even had dinner in their sandwich shop.

I surprised Bill and my neighbor by backing it up into the driveway at night and through the gate. I have about 4-5" on each side to get past the gate posts. It's a tight fit but not something I have to do every day.

The trailer is on the lot!

My trailer is done and on the lot in Elkhart. My next day off is Monday and I'll be there to pick it up and tow the new trailer home!!!!!!!!!!

Local awning company gives a good deal.

I have decided to take one of my Guide Gear lightweight, waterproof tarps and have a local awning company sew a hem and awning welt for me. I'm not trying to be cheap but practical for the first season of use since the trailer itself was a big investment.

With the tarp at 12' x 12' it will be cut down to 7' x 7'. That's the size I had for my Scotty and it gave just enough coverage for the door and two chairs. It also was easy to pull the picnic table in part way under the tarp to cook out of the rain.

There just might be enough material for awnings for the two side windows or for the cargo door slide out that will hold the 6500BTU ac unit. Slider windows only open half way so I want to make sure I have a better option in the rain to keep them open.

The company will add the welt, sew corner pockets for diagonal poles and add two grommets. Price: $50. With that I can afford to add two window awnings if indeed there is enough material.

The pockets in the corners will allow me to add diagonal poles like I was able to do with the Scotty awning.

And no that is not Aunt Barb in the first picture. The camoflage pattern is actually nice looking. I do have a light grey, almost white tarp but I think the light grey camper needs a shot of color! The other picture is that of a much smaller trailer but close to the color I ordered. The Scotty picture features the youngest of my nieces, Paige.

Curtain partitions vs. solid walls

A nice Sunday and beautiful weather gave me a chance to chaulk off the front corner and front wall of the camper. Instead of creating solid walls around the bathroom area I decided to make fabric partitions using curtains. This way I won't need a door right away but the porta potti will be almost hidden in the corner.

I decided to still have 2 sinks, like the Scotty. The kitchen counter sink can be covered to make more prep room when not being used.

The partitions will allow me to have a more open floor plan. I also don't want to screw things into the ceiling and then change the layout a year from now leaving holes in the nice white vinyl. These partitions are cool because they are 6' in height and the ceiling is actually 6'6". I hope the fabric and opening give it a nice feel but also give just the right amount of privacy for a trip to the toilet.

More on the bathroom

I used aspen wood for my teardrop side tables. When I sold the td I left the bracket on the sides of the tear but I kept the tables. I have planned to use them outside again but wanted to keep the same nice wood look throughout this new project.

Bathroom layout

A 7 x 12 trailer allows for a little more wiggle room when it comes to the bathroom. The vanity was store bought and a smaller size making it perfect for the trailer. This vanity also saves me time. I cut out a template on scrap wood for the sink and faucet then used some blue tape to mark off the space I am hoping to allow for the bathroom.
